Slipangle’s Car
What sort of car enthusiast (and particularly Japanese car freak) blog would this be if I didn’t own an iconic car?
So after almost two years searching for a reasonably priced AE86 that wasn’t falling apart, i finally found a Kouki version! I almost bought a Nissan S13…
This red panda has been in my hands for two weeks only but it’s already a lot of fun.
The car: Toyota Corolla Levin AE86 (1987)

(this is how it looks right now - nothing spectacular)
There’s not much going on at the moment, as I’m trying to get the car running again in optimal condition. I can’t downshift from 3rd to 2nd and then to 1st while moving at more than 10Km/h. There’s other minor stuff to be fixed first and then I’ll be fitting the aftermarket stuff.
Anyway, here’s a list of what has been planned immediately and bought:
Cooling:
- aftermarket 13 rib oil cooler + SARD Sports oil filter (to be fitted)
Handling:
- TRD 8Kg/6Kg springs (to be fitted – waiting for good coilover prices)
- Tanabe Front strut bar (to be fitted)
Drivetrain:
- Tomei Trax 2-Way LSD (to be fitted – has OEM differential fitted and chattering…)
- Toyota 4.778 final gear (to be fitted)
Weight reduction:
- Heating system (removed)
- Audio system & wiring (removed)
JDMtyteness and general bling:
- Momo steering wheel with adapter hub (fitted)
Once I’ve got new stuff fitted and new photos taken, I’ll replace all the info here.
